A.L.Fuhrmann was born in 1965 and still isn´t dead. He chose his birthday for optimal distribution of presents over the year. (This means June the 24th, exactly 6 months before and after christmas for those of you who also can´t do mental arithmetics)

After spending some years learning basic skills like walking, talking and binary algebra (not necessarily in this order) he reluctantly entered school. On the whole this turned out to be a pretty good idea, which is the reason why he continued to attend it in one or the other form to the present day. Even the labor pains which brought forth his master thesis (Edi Gröller attended as a midwife) couldn´t break the dangerous habit of  "Getting a proper education".

Now - having finished his ph.D. - A.L.F. is working as key researcher at the VRVis, the research center for virtual reality and visualization in Vienna.

Getting educated is an expensive addiction, which he paid for by doing odd-jobs in the computer community of Vienna, Austria (that´s a country in Europe, not a typo of Australia). Among the strangest were:

• Writing the software for an electronic medical thermometer, managing the display, the A/D conversion and multipoint linear interpolation within 256 byte of program memory on a 33kHz 4-bit microprocessor (thats´s kilohertz not mega)
• Simulating the behavior of about 3500 people at the "Opernball" (the big ball at the viennese opera) in the case of emergency. This was done on a 50MHz 486.
• creating two gigantic eyes which are blinking the time of day at each other over an escalator at the "Südbahnhof" (the viennese south central train station) for a video artist.

His hobbies include archery, diving, cycling, recycling, cooking, hacking strange assembler routines and cohabitating with an animal.

Some of his favorite movies are "The Big Blue" , "Delicatessen" and "The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover" . The last two have nothing to do with the abovementioned hobby cooking.

His favorite color is ultraviolet. (I really don´t understand why people include their favorite color in their homepage. I mean, have you ever sent someone a bitmap of their favorite color for their birthday?)
